{"id":109,"date":"2011-09-22T21:06:44","date_gmt":"2011-09-23T04:06:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/catechumenate-guyblog.org\/?p=109"},"modified":"2020-01-26T13:39:57","modified_gmt":"2020-01-26T21:39:57","slug":"jim-schellman-the-north-american-forum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/catechumenate-guyblog.org\/?p=109","title":{"rendered":"Jim Schellman &#038; The North American Forum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I had the opportunity to meet today with Jim Schellman, Executive Director of&nbsp; The North American Forum on the Catechumenate.&nbsp; I wasn&#8217;t sure how the conversation would go.&nbsp; I was a team member in Forum institutes back in &#8220;my other life&#8221; as an RC.&nbsp; Jim Dunning, the first Ex Dir of the Forum was a huge influence on me in my own journey into this ministry.&nbsp; I still hear his voice in my head.&nbsp; So I went, not with &#8220;fear and trembling&#8221; but with the apprehension of meeting a person I have long wanted to meet because of our common interest but who come to that common interest from different denominational perspectives.<\/p>\n<p>Or do we?&nbsp; We share a deep appreciation of the Tradition that birthed and sustained&nbsp; the catechumenate from the primitive church through today..&nbsp; We&nbsp; share a gratitude to the Vatican II Council Fathers (I wish there had been &#8220;Mothers&#8221; there too) for the liturgical reforms they unleashed.&nbsp; We share a love not only for this ministry but for forming catechumenal ministers.&nbsp; And, of course, most importantly, we&nbsp; both are Fighting Irish alumns (though I didn&#8217;t find out his feelings about college football in general and the Irish in particular).<\/p>\n<p>Our conversation progressed from sharing personal stories to where each of is at now to how we can work together in the future.&nbsp; We met as strangers and parted as friends.&nbsp; I left the &#8220;Catholic Corner&#8221; of Washinton, DC (CUA, The National Shrine, RC colleges and seminaries all over the place) enthused and excited.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the many misgivings that I do and will voice about the RC branch of the Church on these pages, I have a very strong commitment to ecumenism both among Christian denominations and for Christianity with other religions.&nbsp; In the former, we baptize into the Church Universal (one, holy, catholic, apostolic&#8230;or we try to be).&nbsp; With the latter, there are many rooms in the mansion that is the Kingdom of Heaven and many holy paths.&nbsp; (This is an entry unto itself.)<\/p>\n<p>So, Jim, I hope and pray that we will have the opportunity to work together in this vineyard.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I had the opportunity to meet today with Jim Schellman, Executive Director of&nbsp; The North American Forum on the Catechumenate.&nbsp; I wasn&#8217;t sure how the conversation would go.&nbsp; I was a team member in Forum institutes back in &#8220;my other &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/catechumenate-guyblog.org\/?p=109\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_editorskit_title_hidden":false,"_editorskit_reading_time":0,"_editorskit_is_block_options_detached":false,"_editorskit_block_options_position":"{}","_crdt_document":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[1,7,4],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-109","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-catechumenate","category-church","category-theology"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/catechumenate-guyblog.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/109","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/catechumenate-guyblog.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/catechumenate-guyblog.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/catechumenate-guyblog.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/catechumenate-guyblog.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=109"}],"version-history":[{"count":4,"href":"https:\/\/catechumenate-guyblog.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/109\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":307,"href":"https:\/\/catechumenate-guyblog.org\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/109\/revisions\/307"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/catechumenate-guyblog.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=109"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/catechumenate-guyblog.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=109"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/catechumenate-guyblog.org\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=109"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
